As one of the frontrunners for the Tour of Flanders win on Sunday, Peter Sagan was obviously disappointed after a crash took him, along with other race hopeful Greg Van Avermaet and Oliver Naesen out of the running for the win. And now, a new video of the crash shows that Sagan might not be to blame, though the crash was initially attributed to him clipping a road barricade.
Watch the video and check out the jacket that a fan has draped the barricade: you’ll see it clearly catch on the __bike and move forward with it. Was that enough to cause the World Champion to hit the deck? He thinks so.
"I am sure this video verifies the feeling I had about the cause of my crash yesterday at the Tour of Flanders,” Sagan elaborated on Facebook, crediting Seal Jobs for the video. "I was close to the barrier but I was in control when I felt that something caught my left arm, maybe the jacket that is seen later on me. I wouldn't have clipped the barrier with my wheel if I hadn't had my arm caught by that object.”
While he feels, perhaps justifiably, upset about how the race played out—especially after his encounter with a dog walker just weeks ago in Italy during a time trial stage!—he remains optimistic. “These things happen in racing and I now have to focus on Paris-Roubaix,” he concluded.
