Friends
We're excited to announce our first major kids' __bike giveaway for Provo Bicycle Collective.
Our record for bicycles given away in a month is 50 in December 2015. This year, we are hoping to double it by giving away 100 bicycles to kids for Christmas this year. We call it the Century __bike Giveaway. Bicycles will be sent out through our nonprofit partners to low-income families who typically don't have disposable income to purchase gifts.
I'm sure the majority of us remember receiving a bike for Christmas as a kid. Heck, I was absolutely elated to get a new leather saddle as a teenager building vintage bikes for fun. But imagine the excitement of a 9-year old waking up to a new bike!
We're going to need your help! Here is what you can do:
- Volunteer. We're gonna need hands in the shop sprucing up these bikes. Kids' bikes are especially great for beginning volunteers because they are so simple, so this is a great chance to learn about bike mechanics. Come in on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7pm-10pm for volunteer nights to prepare these bikes with us. We've already completed 23 of these bikes.
- Donate. Running charitable programs takes money. The nonprofit sector is not run by unicorns in dreamland; it's run by hard-working staff who juggle volunteer management, fundraising, and charitable work, all while trying to bring in enough revenue to cover program expense and administrative cost. Your tax-deductable contribution is appreciated and keeps our shop staffed and open. Donate here: http://www.bicyclecollective.org/donate/provo-collective-donation
We are looking forward to completing this goal together!
