Koo's Open Shades Offer Loads of Adjustability

Looking for some unique eyewear that matches your helmet? Koo has you covered: The company is a new division of helmet-maker Kask, so the available shades and helmets go together really, really well. So far, only one sunglass model is offered, but stay tuned for the line to expand into more shades and other accessories in coming years.

The sunglasses feature a three-position adjustment where the arms connect to the frame; the lens portion tilts forward and back to help you find the best fit. If your shades fog up, you can move the lens down to provide more airflow over the surface. It’s easy to adjust—Koo says you can do it while riding, but it looks like you’ll probably have to take both hands off the bars.

The arms can both fold in for storage, like a standard sunglass, and also have what the company calls a “folding pivot”—they swivel downward at the temple hinges, which helps them tuck together in an even smaller package.

The lenses are interchangeable, and are sold with two versions: clear and tinted. There’s also a photochromatic lens available, which is sold separately for an extra charge. The whole sunglass is constructed of polycarbonate, with lenses by renowned maker Zeiss.

The lens is held in place to the front of the frame by two small swivel arms (they’re tiny—think one tenth of an inch—but seem really sturdy). To change the lens, rotate the arms 90 degrees, and the lens will pop out.

Two nosepads come with the Open: a standard width, and one that’s slightly narrower. When installed, two positions are available for comfort; change them by simply pushing the pads together or apart.

As previously mentioned, the sunglasses fit really well in Kask’s helmets. Twelve colors are available, and they’re all made in Italy.
