March 2, 1016: Make sure you get on your __bike and head out to be counted next Tuesday March 7th for the Super Tuesday Bicycle Count.
Across New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and Western Australia, hard working volunteers will be stationed along key __bike routes to count the number of riders, record which direction they are going, and note their gender.
Nine hundred and fifteen people will be counting bikes across 875 different sites, helping to collect crucial data to inform policy makers and infrastructure investment decisions. It's a critical snapshot to show how many people are riding, who they are, where infrastructure is working - and where more work is needed.
At the same time, volunteers earn $50 to be donated to a charity of their choice (or to go towards a Bicycle Network membership).
We put the whole exercise on again on the first Tuesday of September for the northern states (where right now it's a bit too hot to be peak riding weather).
We'll be uploading count data from key sites as soon as we can on Tuesday morning, so check back on our website or on Facebook to find out how many people are riding on some of Australia's most well-used bike routes.
If you live in Sydney, the City of Melbourne Melbourne, Shepparton, Maribyrnong or Ringwood, and want to be a counter, there are still a few spots left we are looking for volunteers for - visit the link here to sign up.
See you on your bike!
