Bicycle Network: Latest News
Riders are ready to make their commutes count as part of Bicycle Network's Super Tuesday, Australia's biggest commuter bike count on Tuesday 3 March.
Now in its ninth year, Bicycle Network’s Super Tuesday Commuter Bike Count is conducted by volunteers who record rider movements (including direction, gender and time) at major road and path intersections across Australia.
Bicycle Network then verifies and analyses the data, submitting their findings and bike riding facility recommendations to participating councils in a written report.
This year, there's more than 800 sites across 43 council areas in NSW, VIC, WA and SA.

All volunteers who conduct a count, earn a $50 donation to their local community group, club or non-profit. This year, Bicycle Network’s Super Tuesday Commuter Bike Count will donate $100,000 into the local community.
The count collects bike rider data on behalf of local councils, to help identify how they can improve conditions for bike riders and encourage more people to be physically active. Many local governments use the count to guide their bike riding investments and programs.
Bicycle Network Chief Executive Officer Craig Richards said Super Tuesday data is an important tool for councils for planning infrastructure and facilities for local bike riders.
“By establishing a consistent measure of Australia’s bike riding patterns, we can show how many people are riding and where they are going. This further strengthens the case for investment in better bicycle facilities,” Mr. Richards said.
“Providing the right conditions for riders encourages more people to jump on their bikes – and reap the rewards of better physical and mental health.”
