NSW Coalition announce $40mil in funding

Bicycle Network: Latest News

Another win for the Vote Bike 2015 campaign this week with the announcement by the NSW Coalition of $40 million for new bike and walking paths across NSW.

Bike riders across NSW have been sending a strong message to election candidates.  We thank you for your ongoing support.

Let’s keep this momentum going!  We ask that you invite friends and family across NSW to take action and join our Vote Bike 2015 campaign at votebike.com.au.

As part of this latest commitment, Minister for Transport Gladys Berejiklian said “more than 380 projects across the state will be delivered – completing crucial missing links on popular walking and cycling paths, building new routes to connect growing communities, linking people to public transport hubs and improving access to regional centres.”

We welcome this announcement by the Coalition, but it is only the first step for bike riders in NSW.  This announcement is hopefully the first in a number of announcement for bike riders.  If the current government is serious about improving both congestion and the health of people living in New South Wales then further investment in bicycle infrastructure is needed.

NSW does not spend enough on bicycle infrastructure and is falling behind compared to other states.

Bicycle Network is seeking $310 million over the next four years to bring us up to scratch.

We urge bike riders to write to your candidates to demand better conditions for bike riders.

Last week the NSW Greens committed $250 million for a Bicycle Infrastructure Fund.
