The host for the Grand Départ of the 2015 Tour de France, Utrecht is a mellow university town about 30 minutes by train from Amsterdam’s central station. It is the fourth largest city in the Netherlands and has cultural significance as a religious center, with a cathedral dating from the 13th century. Like Amsterdam, Utrecht has canals, but this small city has a quieter vibe than its bustling northern neighbor.
