Dutch Consul-General Willem Cosijn throws his support behind Vote Bike 2015.
Bicycle Network's NSW manager met this week with Dutch Consul-General Willem Cosijn in Sydney to discuss the growth of bike riding across New South Wales.
The Consul-General spoke of his support for the Vote Bike campaign and how investing in bike riding can make a fantastic city like Sydney even better.
‘The Vote Bike campaign is a very important campaign because it leads to happier people, healthier people and very nice liveable cities’ he said.
Willem grew up in the Netherlands with bike riding being part of every day. The Dutch cities are built around bike riding being an acceptable mode of transport.
Now living in Sydney the Consul-General finds it much more difficult to get on his bike due to lack of infrastructure.
‘Sydney is one of the best cities in the world - I love it here. But it could even be better if there were a sufficient amount of bike lanes’
The Consul-General believes believes it is important to invest in the future of cycling and its benefits – healthier population, cleaner environment, safer and more opportunities for the economy.
'NSW can move forward quickly, and take big steps. The state can learn from the experience gained in the Netherlands, learning from the mistakes saving time and money'.
